"We will be watching the weather patterns into the evening and early Friday morning," said Dawn Lawrence, SJUSD's Emergency Preparedness Coordinator and Public Information Officer. "If conditions change overnight, we will issue notifications as soon as possible in the morning," she continued.
There have been rumors that SJUSD and the neighboring district should be closed on Friday, due to dangerous conditions with the Lake Hemet Dam. Sherry Smith, SJUSD's Emergency Operations Center Director and Assistant Superintendent of Personnel, said she confirmed with official sources at Lake Hemet Municipal Water District that there is a controlled overflow occurring at the dam. "Officials stated there are no issues with the integrity of the dam at this time, and folks should not be alarmed by seeing the water overflow in the San Jacinto River Bed," noted Smith.
SJUSD will continue to share notices on road closures and other hazards published by the City of San Jacinto or Riverside County on SJUSD social media, generally on Twitter (@SanJacintoUSD). At this time, schools are safe and plan to be open on Friday morning.
