In June 2023, Director of Equity and Access Dr. Vanessa Gomez, SJHS Lead Counselor Justin Carmona and District Lead Counselor Angela McClaron traveled to Washington DC to receive the National Postsecondary Strategy Institute Power of Hope award which honors districts that believe empowering counselors as postsecondary leaders results in all students reaching their educational and career goals.
This award recognizes school districts that implement innovative approaches to address educational challenges and improve student outcomes through elevating the role and function of school counselors.
